The Dogwood Garden Club of Americus observed Arbor Day 2012 by planting a dogwood tree on the grounds of the Sumter County Agriculture Center. The tree was planted in memory of Deborah Allen, a Dogwood Club member and officer. Guests at the ceremony were Sumter County Commissioner, Randy Howard, Gene Allen, and County Agent Bill Starr. |

Members of the Dogwood Garden Club continue their partnership in 2012 with Sumter County Elementary School with discussion, video presentation, and hands-on creation of bird feeders and natural habitat creations. Two years ago, these community-active garden club members renovated and restored the campus greenhouse and beautified the environmental garden and pond site. |

In April 2011, members of Early Bloomers GC of Americus did a "spring cleaning" of the Sumter Humane Society flower beds: raking, mulching and pruning, to spruce up the entrance and sides of the building. Early Bloomers also purchased a large conifer to plant in the front yard, to be used as a live Christmas tree, with an ornament displayed for every pet housed at the Society that year. |
