OLEANDER LEAFLETS ISSUES (PDF)

Fall 2011Summer 2011Summer 2010

District Director Sharon Flores, left, and Annual Meeting Co-Chairs Patsy Harrison and Sandra Johanek display the thousands of aluminum tabs that were contributed by Oleander club members at the District Meeting. Sale of the tabs benefits seriously ill or injured children, helping provide a "home away from home" for families with critically ill children in Savannah area hospitals.

Sharon Flores presented checks for $100 each to WAFA Youth winners April Bleakley, age 11, center, and Chloe Taylor, age 10, of Brunswick. Both April and Chloe received first place awards at the recent World Association of Flower Arrangers 10th Annual Show in Boston. Chloe, who also won the bronze medal, was the only medal winner for the United States in Youth Class #34.

In October, the Springfield Garden Club participated in the Effingham County Fair by building a float for the parade and manning a booth at the fair. The theme of the booth was "Growing a Strong Future for Tomorrow by Keeping Our Rivers Clean." The club is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

The World Association of Flower Arrangers 10th Annual World Flower Show was held in Boston in June 2011, and there were two youth division winners from the Oleander District, Chloe Taylor, age 10, and April Bleakley, age 11, both members of Little Blythe Islanders Youth Club in Brunswick.

Odum Garden Club presented a bouquet of flowers to City Clerks Karen Howard and Robin Manners and gift certificates from Summer House Restaurant to city maintenance employees Michael Manners and Dana Kirksey in celebration of National Garden Week.

In April, The Landings Garden Club on Skidaway Island used profits from their annual Bow and Bulb fundraiser to present charitable gifts in the amount of $3,700 to groups that protect our local forests, marshes, native plants, wildflowers and birds.
