Youth Poetry Contest

The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. Invites YOU to participate in the NGC YOUTH POETRY CONTEST. The theme for the 2016-2017 poetry contest is "We Three: Bees, Butterflies, and Me." Be imaginative; express your knowledge and share your insight as to the importance of bees, butterflies and you as pollinators to our earth!

Nicholas James, a Kindergarten student in 2015 was a National, Deep South, and State winner!


  • Kindergarten through 9th Grade
  • Special Education: Kindergarten through 9th Grade
  • English as a Second Language: Kindergarten through 9th Grade

Contest Rules

  1. All entries must be typed and titled.
  2. Include name, address, and age and school grade of participant on back of entry.
  3. Sponsoring club and federation must also be identified.
  4. All entries become the property of NGC.
  5. Poems do not have to rhyme.
  6. Poems may be traditional verse, acrostics, blank verse, cinquains, diamond poems or Haiku.
  7. Have one person from the sponsoring club send entries with his or her name, address, email address and telephone number included in the packet of entries.

    Click on your district to access a sheet of labels. One label should be affixed to the back of each poetry entry. Complete the required information before submitting poems to your District Poetry Chairman.

    Phoenix James is a current 3rd Grade 2016 National, Deep South, and State winner!

    Marion Clark, a 4th Grade student in 2015 was a National, Deep South, and State winner!

Entry Guidelines

Submit entries to the District Poetry Contest Chairman by December 1. The District will send the 1st and 2nd Place winning entries to the State Poetry Contest Chairman before December 10. Contact the State Chairman for more information. Click here for a printable handout.
