Garden Club Scholarships

The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., continues to provide scholarships to deserving Georgia college students majoring in any garden-related subject in an accredited college or university in Georgia. Work Scholarships are also awarded to students for a designated number of hours to be worked at a public botanical garden.

Funding for scholarships is derived from many sources including the sale of engagement calendars, Life Memberships, the Patron of Scholarship program, donations, and special projects. Judging of recipients for the scholarships is based on need, scholastic record, character, initiative, and general attitude. The selection of the scholarship winners is made by the Scholarship Committee of the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. Each year, the Scholarship committee tries to increase the number and size of the scholarships we award to our deserving students.

In recent years, the development of the "Named Scholorship" program is a major source of additional funding for our students. For a minimum of $1,000, an individual or organization may be honored with a scholarship in their name. The names of the honored individuals/organizations are published in the GCG Calendar, in the Archives, on the GCG Website and in Garden Gateways. See the "Named Scholarship Donation Form" below for further details.

Applicants must be full-time students majoring in Agriculture Education, Horticulture, Floriculture, Landscape Design, Botany, Plant Biology, Plant Pathology, Plant Sciences, Forestry, Agronomy, Environmental Concerns, Environmental Conservation, Urban and Rural Planning, Wildlife Science Habitat, Forest Systems, Ecology, Land Management, and/or other garden related or allied subjects. Career goals must demonstrate objectives that are garden related.

Applicants must have been a resident of Georgia for the past four years and must be enrolled at an accredited college or university in Georgia and be paying in-state tuition.

Applications for Deep South Region Scholarships may be downloaded here. DSR Application The deadline to submit completed applications is February 1st. Applications should be mailed directly to the Garden Club of Georgia Scholarship Chairman.

If you are planning to submit a Garden Club of Georgia application and have a GPA of 3.5 or above, you are encouraged to submit the National Garden Clubs application by February 1st to the GCG Scholarship Committee. Two applications are selected by the Scholarship Committee to send to National each year.

2014-15 Scholarship Recipients

The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. continues in its commitment to the future of our state's young people and was deeply gratified in awarding $52,000 this year to deserving Georgia college students majoring in garden-related areas.
